Eric Gales is a blues firebrand whose passion has burned bright across 30 years and 18 albums. A child prodigy from Memphis, he burst onto the scene at 16 with The Eric Gales Band and has since redefined the blues with fearless guitar work and personal, genre-bending songwriting. Even through battles with substance abuse, he continued to push the art form forward, earning praise from legends like Carlos Santana and Joe Bonamassa.
Now five years sober and creatively renewed, Eric returns with Crown (Provogue/Mascot, Jan 2022), his most revealing album yet. Produced by Bonamassa and Josh Smith, the 16-track release explores addiction, racism, and resilience with searing honesty, bold political insight, and his finest vocals and guitar playing to date. Written just after the murder of George Floyd, Crown is emotionally charged—“These songs came from those outpourings,” he says. “This is me letting the world know what I’ve been through.”
Eric and Joe’s reunion in 2019—25 years after their early days as teen prodigies—sparked a new chapter. Their explosive live performance reignited a brotherhood and led Joe to tell Eric, “It’s your turn to wear your crown.” That message powers the album’s title and spirit: a triumphant statement from an artist stepping fully into his long-overdue moment.
