Born and-raised right here in Clifton, Jim Lawson was a multi-talented multi-instrumentalist and recording engineer. Guitar was his main instrument, and as he said, was part of him. Once during a club gig, someone who couldn’t see the stage was heard asking, “Is Eric Clapton here?”
He played with many bands around town for more than 40 years, including No Brakes, The Last Minute Blues Band, Moxie and The Matchboys, Prospect Hill (drums), The City Hall Renaissance Orchestra (upright bass) The Moxie Band, Legal Alienation, The Balance All-Stars, The Lawson-Yeardley Project, The Groove Mechanics, and Brooke-Salem Krewe.
“His playing had a light touch with a clean and confident tone, leaving room for the music to breathe, and space for other musicians to be heard and appreciated. It was a delight to play and perform with him,” says David Yates, bass player for Legal Alienation.
Many were influenced, encouraged, taught, recorded by, or otherwise mentored by Jim. Some say he changed their lives. He will be greatly missed.
Join us to celebrate Jim’s life while sharing stories and music. All are welcome to share a story or memory of Jim.
