Since forming in 2015, Louis York has consistently delivered groundbreaking projects that blend musical sophistication with emotional resonance.
Their debut EP trilogy, Masterpiece Theater: Act I, Act II, Act III, garnered critical acclaim from Billboard and Los Angeles Times, showcasing their genre-defying approach to music. In 2019, they released their first full-length album, American Griots, which explored themes of love, wellness, and societal reflection. The album’s lead singles, “Don’t You Forget” and “How Will I Feel,” reached the Top 15 on the US Urban Radio chart and earned them appearances on major platforms like PBS NewsHour and CNN. The project was hailed as a “new negro spiritual,” blending jazz, classical, soul, and pop into a cohesive masterpiece.
In 2024, Louis York released their sophomore album Songs With Friends, a celebration of collaboration featuring an eclectic roster of artists such as Jessie J, Lalah Hathaway, Chris Daughtry, PJ Morton, Anthony Hamilton, Tamia, and Gramps Morgan. The album is a genre-spanning triumph that underscores the beauty of community in music-making. Tracks like “Heaven Bound” (featuring Jessie J), “Catch A Feeling” (with Chris Daughtry), and “Have A Little Light” (with Gramps Morgan) showcase their ability to craft songs tailored to each collaborator’s unique artistry. The project also reflects their mission to highlight Black contributions to all genres of American music while pushing creative boundaries.
