Nelson Rangell

Jazziz magazine writes that Nelson Rangell is “an artist of depth, a master of song, and an improviser non pareil.” The Times of London notes “his extraordinary facility on a range of instruments and his undoubted virtuosity,” adding that Nelson is “one of fusion’s most accomplished exponents.” Such praise is a confirmation of what contemporary jazz fans have known since the Denver based saxophonist emerged in the late 80s: that Rangell is one of the most exciting and diverse performers in the genre, equally adept at soprano, alto, and tenor saxophone, as well as being a genuine virtuoso on flute and piccolo.

Adam Hawley,
currently a resident of Los Angeles, started his music career in the Portland Metro Area of Oregon before moving to Southern California in 2002. The music bug bit early when he came across his parent’s record collection, which ranged from Earth, Wind, & Fire & The Brothers Johnson to Elvis. He started piano at 8 before embarking on his career as a guitarist at 9 years old. Touring came just 5 years later in a bluegrass band that performed extensively throughout the Pacific Northwest. Then came a blues/rock band which also toured Oregon and Washington.
Following high school, Adam moved to LA at 17 years old to attend the University of Southern California. He received his Bachelor’s, Mastor’s, & Doctorate from USC in Studio/Jazz Guitar. In the world of academia he has gone on to hold countless masterclasses and clinics worldwide and currently teaches at Musician’s Institute, Chaffey College, and Saddleback College.
