A technical chameleon and guitar virtuoso, Paul Gilbert is one of the most influential electric guitarists of his generation. Best known for his work with Mr. Big and Racer X, Gilbert has helped shape rock guitar across pop, metal, blues, and instrumental music. From chart-topping arena anthems with Mr. Big to pushing the electric guitar to its furthest limits with Racer X, his playing is celebrated for being both technically thrilling and tastefully musical.
Gilbert’s latest project, WROC—short for Washington’s Rules of Civility—finds the guitar superstar boldly expanding into new creative territory. Using George Washington’s Rules of Civility as a conceptual inspiration, Gilbert challenges himself to think outside the box, pairing classic metal riffage, boogie blues, regal harmonies, and melodic songwriting. The album marks his most outlandish and listenable offering to date and reflects a renewed focus on melody and songcraft alongside his signature virtuosity.
Recorded live over four days with a full band, WROC captures the raw energy of musicians playing face to face, with Gilbert embracing both vocal-driven songs and fearless guitar work. As a solo artist, he continues to traverse uncharted sonic landscapes, breaking rules when necessary while honoring the musical instincts that have defined his career.
