Steve Earle is one of the most acclaimed singer-songwriters of his generation. A protégé of Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark, he became a master storyteller in his own right, with songs recorded by Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Joan Baez, Emmylou Harris, The Pretenders, and others. His 1986 release Guitar Town shot to number one on the country charts and is regarded as a classic of the Americana genre, and his 1988 hit “Copperhead Road” was made an official state song of Tennessee in 2023.
Subsequent releases including The Revolution Starts…Now, Washington Square Serenade, and TOWNES received consecutive GRAMMY® Awards. In 2022, Jerry Jeff featured Earle’s versions of songs written by mentor Jerry Jeff Walker.
Earle has published the novel I’ll Never Get Out of This World Alive and the short story collection Dog House Roses, produced albums for Joan Baez and Lucinda Williams, and appeared in the HBO series The Wire and Tremé.
He was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2020. His latest album, Alone Again (Live), was released in 2024, and he was officially inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 2025.
